Obituary

     "The funeral takes place tomorrow of Mr. Leonard Aldous, who played a leading part in local affairs for more than 40 years.
Mr. Aldous, Debenham-born, of Ipswich Road, was 81.
For 53 years, until he retired 15 years ago, he was a saddler & harness maker in the High Street, starting as an apprentice in 1913.
From 1945 he was the proprietor and the business is being carried on under his name by two long-serving employees, who bought it from him.
Mr. Aldous many interests included playing the organ at the United Reformed church and conducting the former village band. He was a churchwarden and memeber of the parochial church council, a parish councillor, governor of the High School and chairman of the youth club committee.
He leaves a wife and married daughter, Mrs. Jill Westrup, of Worlingworth.
Mr. and Mrs. Aldous celebrated their golden wedding two months ago."6
