     On 9 Oct 1850 In the Bury & Norwich Post dated 9th October, 1850 - "On Saturday last, Jacob Cullum, a miller, in the employ of Mr. Smith, was committed for trial at the Assizes, charged with committing a rape upon the person of Elizabeth, wife of William Barnard, labourer of Combs. Cullum has hitherto borne an irreproachable character."6
     On 23 Oct 1850 In the Bury & Norwich Post, dated 23rd October, 1850 - "In our paper of the 9th inst. it was incorrectly stated that Jacob Cullum, committed on a charge of rape, had hitherto borne an irreproachable character. We understand that this is not the case; on the contrary he has before been convicted of a similar offence."7
