1 Feb 1943The cause of death of Ronald Charles George Cater was given as Takeoff from Station Kings Cliff (Northamptonshire), in a daylight operation ferrying collected aircraft from 43 MU. Crashed soon after takeoff following loss of power to both starboard engines. It is thought that the engine failure was due to excessive ground running before takeoff. The Aircraft was a Vickers Wellington III, Serial Number X3361, with markings KW on 1 Feb 1943.5

Honours Accorded at Horringer Funeral
It was with regret that the residents of Horinger and Ickworth heard of the death on service of Ronald Charles George Cater, Sergt.-Navigator R.A.F V.R., only child Mr and Mrs Charles Cater of Horringer (late of London), and much sympathy is extended to the parents.
Sergt. Cater, aged 21, was educated at the Buckingham Gate Central School where he won a scholarship to the Paddington Technical Institute. From there he joined the staff of the Gas, Light and Coke Company in the Research Dept. He joined the R.A.F. in May 1941 and part of his training was done in Canada. He was a keen musician and most popular wherever he went.
The funeral took place at St. Leonard’s Church, Horringer on Monday afternoon, the Rev. Lord Manners Harvey and a chaplain to the R.A.F. officiating. the hymn “Brief life is here our Portion” was sung. the coffin was borne by six Sergeants of the R.A.F. and a firing party was in attendance, whilst a bugler sounded the “Last Post”.
The family mourners were: Mr and Mrs Charles Cater (parents), Mr and Mrs Walter Cater (uncle and aunt), Mrs G Cater (grandmother), Mrs Orange and Miss Insley (aunts), Miss Molly Cater (cousin), Mr and Mrs Jackman, Mrs Jenkins (Woolpit), Mrs Baker, Mrs Graves (Police Quarters, Westminster), Miss P Morley. Others present were: Mr and Mrs L Crack, Mr and Mrs M Shepard, Mr and Mrs D Marriott, Mrs. J Borham, Miss Flack, Mrs John Curtis (also representing Mr. John Curtis), Mrs Butler, Mrs John Allan, Mrs Hardcastle, Nurse Johnson, Mrs Whiting, Mrs E Johnson, Mrs A Willingham, Miss Steers, Mrs W Sturgeon, Mrs. J Byford, Mrs F Cooper, Mrs S Boreham, Mrs. J Rowe, Mr Morley, Mrs W Hart, Mr and Mrs C Rose (Bury St Edmund’s), Mrs S Herod, Mr S Sergent. Mrs D Parker, Mrs D Parker, Mrs H Sharp, Mrs Clarry, Mrs W Utting, Mrs G Pask, Mrs Bugg, Mrs Bryant, Miss M Cater, Mr Bartram.
The beautiful flowers were inscribed: “Good-bye, Ronnie, old boy, till we meet again, from your broken-hearted mum and dad. Too dear Ron, from his loving Gran; and from auntie Blanche, uncle Walter and Molly; aunt Jane and uncle Fred; Aunt Tot and uncle Albert; aunt Osie; O.C. and officers of his squadron; O.C. and other ranks; members of the Sergeants Mess; C.O. and all other ranks of his R.A.F. Station; residents of the Police Quarters, Westminster; Mr and Mrs Lofts Camberley, (Surrey); Mrs Parker and Mrs Wyatt; Mrs. J Boreham and Jimmy; Mr and Mrs L Crack; Mr and Mrs A Shepard; Mr S Smith and Douglas; Derek; N.F.
